Woman Knifed in Birmingham Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries

The female victim who was stabbed in the neck during a random assault near a bus shelter in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.

The deceased woman, who was 34, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.

Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, charged over the violent incident.

Originally charged of attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.

Police Response

Authorities stated police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.

Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, identified as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.

The knife attack occurred outside the Bullring shopping centre, across from the main entrance of New Street railway station.

Police said they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating they were working to understand the motive behind.

Witness Accounts

Shalini Doal, who works nearby, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.

She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", adding that co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances around 9 PM.

"Many co-workers use transit services, take the tram... our safety is at risk essentially, in the downtown area."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came the city fairly regularly visiting his partner who lives in the city, expressing concern regarding the incident.

"It causes concern for my girlfriend," he stated.

"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... considering a totally random act [happened], understandably, it's terrible."
