Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous interesting indie games. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a hero that is literally a turd attempting to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Throughout 150 stages, battle boss fights and access a store to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.

Execute your actions carefully, as a wrong move requires starting over. Bounce using bubbles to hurl the poop upward, traverse fragile platforms, and interact with switches to reveal hidden paths. Collect coins for buying more difficult levels in which gameplay ramps up.

Graphically, the demo features vibrant environments and a killer soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style with shifting basic polygons could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although tough to recall similar titles where you are a coiled turd, video games have long incorporated scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. Naturally, such content shows up a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, like winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on Steam in the fall.
